Skokomish Park at Lake Cushman
Marisa and Tyler are some of my all-time favorite clients. They’re down-to-earth, flexible, generous, hilarious, and so kind. Really what else could I possibly ask for in clients? I’m so excited to share their engagement photo session at Lake Cushman and Skokomish park with y’all.
But first, let’s chat about making a trip out of your engagement session, creating an unforgettable experience and lifelong memories.
Camping near Olympic National Park
Lake Cushman and Skokomish Park sit at the very farthest southeast corner of Olympic National Park. About 2 hours from Seattle and 1 hour from Olympia. Skokomish Park has 61 campsites and covers over 500 acres on the 41,500 feet of freshwater shoreline on Lake Cushman.
Skokomish Park is a truly serene campground. It’s set among tall evergreen trees, in effect giving you privacy from your campground neighbors. It has lakefront swimming access, SUP and kayak rentals, clean bathroom facilities, and a small convenience store. The staff are kind and helpful. Skokomish Park is an incredible choice for camping near Olympic National Park.
Fun fact, my husband and I actually got married at Skokomish Park. The group campsite makes a great pop-up wedding venue!
Olympic National Park Accommodations
Not feeling the camping vibes? No worries, there are a few great National Park accommodations nearby but my all-time favorite is Alderbrook Resort and Spa.
I’ve photographed a few weddings at Alderbrook and actually stayed here after my own Lake Cushman wedding. It’s truly a pacific northwest gem. Stunning grounds and views, cozy rooms, delicious food, and incredibly accommodating staff.
Two other great lodging options are Robin Hood Village Resort and Waterfront at Potlatch.
Olympic National Park 1 Day Itinerary
Okay, so you’ve decided to do a weekend trip for your engagement session! Which gives you one day for your photos and one day for some exploring. Here are my top recommendations for your day in the southeast corner of Olympic National Park.
Hike the Staircase Rapids Loop. An easy 2-mile round trip hike through incredible moss-covered old-growth trees. Walk along the North Fork Skokomish River and stare in awe at the bright glacier-blue rapids. Cross a sturdy suspension bridge and make your way back to the parking lot, walking through an even more stunning forest.
Tackle one of my all-time favorite hikes in Washington State. The unbeatable Mt Ellinor. This hike is definitely for the more advanced hiker. It is VERY steep, climbing 2444ft in 1.6 miles. The views are unparalleled and if you’re up for a challenge I highly recommend this Olympic National Park hike.
Looking for something a little more chill? Check out Hoodsport Winery. Hoodsport Winery is a small award-winning winery located on the rural Olympic Peninsula. From the winery, you have a majestic view of the Hood Canal and the Olympic Mountains. Afterward, grab some coffee or ice cream at Hoodsport Coffee Co.
